Improve Your Work From Home

Written by Molly Hoppenjan, PT, DPT, ATC

Still working from home?!?

At this point, if you are still working from home, you may not see an end date in the near future, however you probably have come to figure out the positive and negatives of this working situation.

On the down side:

  •  Have you found it hard to focus with kids and animals running around you all day?
  • Do you miss the morale of being with your coworkers?
  • Have you been noticing more aches and pains from not having the most ideal set up?

On the up side:

  • Your schedule may be a little more flexible
  • Who doesn’t love being able to get a load of laundry going in between meetings or phone calls?

Take breaks!

These breaks actually aren’t a bad thing at all. Research supports the use of shorter breaks more frequently throughout the workday to help decrease musculoskeletal pain, while actually maintaining productivity. Taking a short break every 30-45 minutes is beneficial for your body and your brain.

The breaks can be as simple as walking to the printer instead of having it right at your desk, or walking around the house while you are making a phone call instead of sitting in front of your computer.

How’s that desk set up?

While getting up and moving throughout your work day is very important, so is your workstation set up. Check out the Patient Resources page of our website for a handout of an ideal desk setup to keep your body in the best possible position. This may require you to be a little creative with what you can use to make this happen.

Remember those old textbooks that you kept because you thought that you would use them? They could now double as a computer monitor stand or a foot rest.

If the chair that you are using doesn’t have great back support, a rolled up towel or T-shirt placed behind your low back can do the trick.

What should you do during your breaks?

Now that we have you set up for success, there are a few things that you can do during your breaks to maintain those good mechanics. This spring we created a work from home video series that you can reference on our website, Facebook and Instagram to follow along with stretches and exercises. While these exercises and stretches are great, it is also recommended to get 30 minutes of dedicated exercise a day.

Working from home may even allow you a little more flexibility of when you can squeeze your work out in, whether it is over your lunch break or between meetings. If you are finding it hard to complete your workouts due to aches and pains, the physical therapists at Dubuque Physical Therapy can help you out.

Get up and try it!

Try a few of these things and let us know how it goes! We would love to hear from you on social media or through reviews on Facebook and Google!

Moving Forward with a New Look

In 2020, more than ever, the world is turning to the internet.

People are online more than they ever have been.
Students are listening to their teachers online.
Many people are working from home, having meetings via Zoom and interacting through screens.

For better or for worse, this is what is happening right now. So rather than shy away from it, Dubuque Physical Therapy is trying to find the positive and embrace it.

In late spring 2020, we launched a large scale rebranding, updating our look and online presence to better adapt to the new online world. We have been working hard over the past few months, and now we are ready to release it all to the public!

New logo designed

We started with our logo. We wanted it to encompass who we are and be easily recognizable. At Dubuque Physical Therapy, we are all about movement:

We want to help you move forward towards your goals.
We believe in the power of movement and how our bodies are built for movement.

The arrow in our new logo also encompasses bettering our skills and continual learning. We are always looking to the future for the latest technology and techniques to provide the best care to our clients.

Website redesigned

Next was the website. Our previous website desperately needed a facelift, and we wanted it to be as user-friendly as possible so that our current and future clients could get all the info they need.

From our new website, you can learn about all the services we offer to get you feeling your best. It highlights our therapists and support staff, giving you information on which therapists specialize in which techniques, allowing you to tailor your care to best suit you! It will also feature a regular news blog with articles written by our therapists to share some of their knowledge and tie physical therapy into current events.

Online appointment booking

Along with the website came the ability to book your appointments online. We are so excited to offer this new way to book appointments with our therapists! On our new website, there is a big red button at the top that says: Request An Appointment. All you have to do is click that button and it takes you through it step by step. Our new portal allows you to choose:

your therapist, and
when you want to see them.

We also have all of our forms online too, so when you come for your appointment, you can get started with your therapist right away!

Social media focus

Our last and current focus is having a better, bigger social media presence. We want to share with you:

what is going on in our clinic,
what we are working on, and
success stories.

We want to be your go-to resource for all things physical therapy ― research articles, new exercises to try out, improving body mechanics for activities you do every day, and more! Be on the lookout for videos and posts a few times each week. Plus, we want to hear from you!

Do you have questions about physical therapy?
Is there a cool new technique you have heard about and want to learn about?

Shoot us a message and let us help you learn about it!

How does all this rebranding affect you?

So how does all this new rebranding affect you? We hope it affects you positively!

We hope it allows you to find more information about what we do.
We hope it allows you to contact us more easily when you need us!
We hope it shows you that we offer top-of-the-line therapy.
We hope it shows you that we utilize the latest research and techniques in combination with one-on-one care to provide the best treatment.

We hope it helps you think of Dubuque Physical Therapy as your LOCAL MOVEMENT EXPERTS.

We want to work for you (and with you) to get you back to doing the things you love.
